    How to stop silver tarnishing.

    1. Store your jewellery properly. Silver tarnishes when in contact with air, so keeping it in airtight bags helps. I store my silver jewellery in ziplock bags in my jewellery box. Keeping your jewellery safely stored away from light and air will help prevent tarnish.
    2. Make sure that any lotions are fully absorbed into the skin and that perfume has dried before putting your jewellery on.
    3. Remove your jewellery before gardening, cleaning or any other activities that will make you sweat.
    4. Never, ever wear your jewellery when swimming. Chlorine causes all kinds of damage to silver.
    5. After wearing your silver jewellery, wipe it with a cotton cloth to remove any body oils, beauty products or chemicals that could cause it to tarnish. Don't use kitchen paper or tissues as they can cause tiny scratches.
    6. Clean silver jewellery frequently to keep it in perfect condition.

    How to clean silver jewellery

    1. Make your own home made silver cleaner with baking powder. Take a small bowl, line it with aluminium foil then add hot water, a tablespoon of baking soda and stir. Place the jewellery in the solution for about one minute, rinse clean and let it air dry.
    2. If you have a build up of dirt in hard to reach places, just put washing-up liquid in a bowl of water and soak over night.
    3. Use a commercial silver dip. These can be picked up in most supermarkets. Simply dip the silver into the cleaner and it will instantly remove tarnish. Be careful when using commercial silver cleaners with some gemstones and pearls - it can damage them.
    4. Use a silver polishing cloth. These special cloths are impregnated with a silver cleaner. Just wipe your jewellery with the cloth to remove tarnish. Great for smooth surfaced jewellery, but tricky for tarnish in hard to reach places.
